alex alburquenque (she/her) is a rsw counsellor with her masters in social work and over 10 years of combined education and experience. alex brings a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered approach to therapy.
emdr (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is alex’s primary modality, and she is passionate about using it to help clients process past experiences, foster self-compassion, and reconnect with their sense of self-worth and belonging. alex is also trained in cognitive behavioural therapy (cbt) and dialectical behaviour therapy (dbt), which support her work in helping clients manage anxiety, depression, stress, and emotional regulation.
in addition to providing individual therapy, alex provides relationship therapy and integrates
emotion focused therapy (eft) with gottman and intersectional feminist theory. alex would be a great fit for any queer couples seeking support or anyone navigating non conforming relationships!

as a latina woman living on unceded Secwepemc territory, alex understands the complexity of navigating a cultural identity that she can hold both closely and also at a distance. alex recognizes how imposter syndrome or 'not enough' can show up in our relationship to culture.
alex is passionate about creating affirming spaces for LGBTQIA2S+ and neurodivergent clients, drawing from both professional expertise and lived experience as a queer, neurodivergent clinician. this perspective informs her deep commitment to honoring each client’s unique story, pace, and needs in the healing process.
outside of work, alex enjoys life with her wife and their two beloved cats. she finds joy and grounding in time spent by the ocean, paddleboarding, playing videogames, and exploring creativity through art.

alex is currently accepting clients for both individual and relationship therapy
